Main pests and diseases of autumn

The weather is very conducive to the activity of many pests and diseases. The humidity and the still benign average temperatures (neither cold nor hot), encourage all these uncomfortable visitors to gnaw and dry out the species in the garden.

Cabbage caterpillars

Snails and limes

Snails (Helix aspersa), red or black slugs (Arion sps.) and grey slugs (Limax sps.), can kill a crop in a single night. The best biological remedy is to install boiled lettuce bait in the ground to remove it at night, when it is full of these Gasteropods devouring it.

Melolontha

Wintering adults (Melolontha) Known as the Sanjuan beetle and grey worm, it is a voracious and dangerous beetle both as an adult and in its larval stage. It is necessary to dig the ground from time to time from now on, in order to manually extract the wintering adults that come to the surface.

Rust (on Acer pseudoplatanus)

Humidity is its ideal environment and in these autumn months it is found like a fish in water. It is the rust (Phragmidium subcorticium), which appears as rusty spots on the leaves weakening the plants and being very difficult to eradicate. Best of all, preventive treatments with systemic fungicides.
